Active Directory, the central directory service and core of the on-prem identity infrastructure in Microsoft environments, recently turned 25 years old. The service’s staying power is undeniable. Unfortunately, so is its status as a primary cyberattack target.

Michael Novinson (Information Security Media) met with Semperis’ CEO Mickey Bresman to talk about Active Directory and the potential security issues that result from the service’s legacy status.

“[As] with any technology that’s been around for 25 years,” Bresman explains, “multiple different people, administrators, have been configuring the Active Directory for different purposes. … Then fast forward to where we are now … You’ll have at least five or six different administrators that were managing the environment.”

“Some organizations don’t fully understand what potential exposures exist in AD environments. In some cases, they might understand the exposures, but they’re not really sure what to do about it.
